I know this tip has been shared a million times over on blogs & the like, but I just wanted to add my voice. It's awesome. No babysitting the washer, no yucky smells, and no waxiness on my clothes from the dryer sheet.
Secondly, I add 1/2-1 cup bleach, ditto on the no babysitting for my whites.
Cost at my grocery store of choice: $1.24
