This was the first book I've read about the American Revolution and as such it was very interesting and piqued my interest in the time period and the great figures of the revolution. That said, I didn't think the book was overly insightful. The blurb on the cover of this book says it "gallops along with all the drama and intrigue of a great novel." That's not far off in that the book does move briskly along through Revere's life, which helped keep my interest, but it's also true that the author rarely pauses for more than a moment on any one incident or subject, leaving me wanting for more. More depth, more information, more connection.
One thing that was a repeated distraction was the author's use of trite statements with little real meaning like "But Bernard wasn't having any" and "Better get back to that snuff box, Paul" that added nothing to the book and didn't fit with the subject matter.
The final word: A good book if you're looking for an overview of the life of Paul Revere, but otherwise not too exciting...
